How did your story with the filigree technique and metallic thread begin?

It started as a temporary freelance job, but it eventually turned into a passion.

What attracted you to working with gold and silver metallic thread?

I was drawn to the design process — how from a single outline you can find many different solutions. I also enjoy the research involved when developing the design, the concept, and the message that the design will convey.

How long have you been working with this technique, and how has your artistic expression evolved over the years?

I have been working with this technique for about nine years.

The filigree technique requires time and patience. What does the process of creating a piece look like, from idea to final creation?

I would say it requires dedication more than anything. The most important part is arriving at a good design. This phase can last from a few days to several months.

Interestingly, you can never fully draw it beforehand. You only start with a contour, and then comes the research of ornaments and different artistic styles. This leads to the final design, which is then refined during the making process until the moment when you no longer want — or feel the need — to change anything.

How long does it usually take to create one piece?

It depends on the complexity of the motif. It can take anywhere from one hour to literally eighteen hours.

How do you maintain a balance between traditional technique and contemporary artistic expression?

We preserve the traditional elements of filigree, while through design we give a new perspective to traditional motifs.

You say you do not produce serial items. What does “author-made craftsmanship” mean to you?

Author-made craftsmanship means understanding the meaning behind the design of the motif. You know the function of every element and can play with it without disturbing its harmony.

Even if one motif is created in several pieces, it is never copied. Each piece carries its own uniqueness.

How do you define authenticity in your work?

Authorship.

What would you like people to feel when they own one of your pieces?

I want them to feel the message carried by the motif.

Most of our motifs convey messages of empathy, togetherness, love, joy, and wisdom. We want people, every time they look at the piece, to feel those emotions again and return to those moments — whether it is love, childhood joy, kindness they have received or shared.

We want to remind them of the essence of human life: that we are here and now, and we can be someone’s love, someone’s joy, someone’s angel.

Who usually chooses your creations? For what occasions are they intended?

People who appreciate the effort and attention invested in the piece. They want something that is lasting and unique.

Our art is meant for any occasion when you want to show someone that you respect and love them.

What is the biggest challenge in preserving and developing a traditional craft like this today?

Maintaining quality and authorship. Materials are becoming increasingly scarce and difficult to obtain.

There is also a lack of courses that offer proper training in the technique. And it is always helpful to have stronger support from the local community.
